It comes already installed with a prepaid Irish SIM card which you can top up as needed.
The device can be set up to be sound-activated and/or activated by you whenever you wish.

The GSM listening device is hidden in a fully-functioning lamp. This lamp is powered by the mains. As long as the lamp is connected to a mains socket, the listening device will operate. No battery to charge!
To hear what is happening in the lamps’ location, you simply call the SIM’s phone number. The device will answer silently, and transmit the ambient sound for as long as the call continues. The lamp will record all sound within about 8 metres radius of its location.
In addition, you can remotely (by text) toggle on/off the option that the device will call you when a sound is detected.
